When you ask people why they don’t use a transportation option other than driving alone, one of the reasons they most commonly give is the fear of not being able to get home if there is an emergency during the workday.
To help commuters feel confident that they can get home in an emergency, Cherriots Rideshare offers a free Emergency Ride Home (ERH) program. Any employee who works at a participating work site in the counties of Polk, Marion or Yamhill can register for the program.
When a commuter signs up for Cherriots Rideshare ridematching, if the commuter's employer participates in the ERH program, the commuter will automatically receive an ERH card. The card has a unique commuter ID number on it as well as the contact information for the ERH administrator at the commuter’s work site.
Valid reasons for free rides home are:
• |
You are too sick to wait for your normal ride. |
|
Someone in your immediate family has an emergency and you need to get to your home or car. |
|
Your child is sick and you need to pick him or her up early. |
|
There is an emergency at your house or property (e.g., a fire or a burglary). |
|
Your carpool/vanpool driver has left early because of an emergency and you have no other way to get home. |
A lot of companies and state offices are already participating in the ERH program, so ask someone in HR or your boss whether you are eligible. If your company is not signed up yet, encourage the appropriate company representative to contact Cherriots Rideshare at (503) 371-POOL.
This program is intended to be used only in emergencies. There is a limit of four ERH rides per person in any 12-month period.
Note: ERH is not to be used to access emergency medical care in lieu of ambulance or other appropriate medical-transport service or for work-related injuries.
