At Salem-Keizer Transit, our employee-sponsored volunteer team, Cherriots Connects, is committed to making a positive difference in the community through volunteerism and civic involvement. Cherriots Connects also promotes teamwork through fun and engaging events for employees and their families.
Since the creation of Cherriots Connects in July 2011, Salem-Keizer Transit employees have volunteered over hundreds of hours on activities like Adopt-A-Street, Play for a Cure softball tournament, and a day at Walker Middle School helping teachers move into their classrooms.
Mid Valley Women's Crisis Service: Last holiday season, Salem-Keizer Transit held a donation drive for supplies that the Mid Valley Women's Crisis Service needed in order to provide support and refuge to women and children who survive domestic and sexual violence. Supplies include toiletries, gift cards, umbrellas, toys and cash. Salem-Keizer Transit staff donated over 450 items and $457 for the Crisis Service. In addition, they've held fund raisers to make cash donations to the organization.
United Way: United Way of the Mid-Willamette Valley works collaboratively with partners throughout Marion, Polk and Yamhill counties to identify community needs and address their underlying causes. Each year Salem-Keizer Transit donates 4,000 bus passes for distribution to United Way programs in the area and in 2012 our employees donated over $9,000 towards the cause.
Play for a Cure: For the 2012 Play for a Cure tournament, Salem-Keizer Transit employees raised awareness and donated over $1000 to the Linda L. Vladyka Breast Wellness Foundation, a local organization that donates to local breast cancer awareness programs.
Rotary Food Drive: In 2012, our employees donated more than 350 pounds of food and $345 to Marion-Polk Food Share during the Rotary's annual food drive.
The hard-working members of the Connects committee also maintain a year-round list of community volunteer opportunities.
