CARTS Service Changes May 8

After a 20-month process of research and public outreach, the Cherriots Board of Directors approved a plan to restructure CARTS service in Marion and Polk Counties. The final schedules and maps can be found here. Beginning May 8, 2017, most CARTS routes are being replaced with new Cherriots Regional express routes. In order to make these new routes faster and more reliable, the buses will only stop at their designated bus stops. This means passengers will no longer be able to call in to request the bus to come closer to their home, and drivers will no longer be able to stop at alternative locations when asked by passengers on the bus. Fares will not change.

CARTS 45 will continue to operate the same as it does today. Passengers will still be able to call the Cherriots Call Center to request pickups and drop-offs throughout Dallas, Monmouth, and Independence. However, the service now will be referred to as the Polk County Flex.

In addition, Route 25 will be replaced by Route 20X, which will make five scheduled daily round-trips between Salem and Woodburn via Silverton and Mt. Angel. The Route 35 dial-a-ride will be discontinued, but one additional daily round-trip will be made on Route 30X between Salem and Stayton for a total of four round-trips.
