Looking back one year after our service suspension

On March 31, 2020, in an unprecedented move, Cherriots temporarily suspended service for six days: buses stopped rolling, office doors closed, and employees went home.

A great deal has occurred since then. Here’s a look back.

February 11, 2020 - The WHO names the coronavirus Covid-19.

March 3, 2020 - CDC confirms Oregon’s first coronavirus case in Washington County.

March 8, 2020 - Governor Kate Brown declares state of emergency due to the public health threat posed by COVID-19.

March 14. 2020 – Oregon reports first death from COVID-19.

March 18 -19, 2020 - Cherriots implements back-door only entry and exit plan for buses; announces moratorium on out-of-District travel; issues declaration of emergency.

April 7, 10, 2020 – Cherriots begins providing a reduced level of service for essential trips only; requires all riders and operators to wear masks or facial covering while on buses.

April 28, 2020 – U.S. surpasses 1 million COVID-19 cases.

May 1, 2020 – The American Public Transportation Association (APTA) begins work with the Mobility Recovery & Restoration Task Force; General Manager Allan Pollock serves on the task force.

May 29, 2020 – Cherriots Board of Directors approves funding for cockpit shields on buses.

June 29, 2020 - Governor extends face coverings requirement statewide.

October 25, 2020 – Marion County breaks its record for daily cases with 88.

November 18, 2020 – Cherriots offices close to the general public for a second time.

November 20, 2020 - New record of 1,306 coronavirus cases reported in Oregon in a single day.

December 14, 2020 – COVID-19 vaccine begins arriving in Oregon.

January 4, 2021 – Governor sets goal of 12,000 vaccinations a day by the end of two weeks.

January 22, 2021 - The 81st​​ Legislative Assembly convenes; the Capitol remains closed to the public.

March 12, 2021 - Governor issues executive order reopening schools for in-person instruction.

March 26, 2021 - Governor announces accelerated timelines for the COVID-19 vaccination group that includes frontline workers.
