Executive Session
Executive Sessions are portions of Board meetings that are closed to the general public so the Board can discuss certain matters permitted under Oregon’s Public Meetings Law, such as personnel issues, legal strategy, or property negotiations. No final actions or decisions are taken in Executive Sessions, and the statutory basis for the session is announced before entering closed session.
Representatives of the news media are generally allowed to attend Executive Sessions unless the law specifically permits the Board to exclude them (for example, in certain labor negotiation situations or when a media organization is directly involved in litigation). Even when media attend, information discussed may be restricted from public reporting to protect confidentiality. Notices of Executive Sessions are provided in compliance with state law.
Special Board Meetings
Special meetings may be called by the Board with at least 24 hours notice. An emergency meeting, which is a rare occurrence, may be called with less than 24 hours notice. The Board holds an annual planning meeting, which is open to the public at an offsite location.
